Part 1: The Adventure Begins
Shortly after coming back from Baltimore for Spring Break, we started talking about our summer vacation. Gideon had mentioned going home for his birthday and 4th of July and I wanted to go to Niagara Falls before we left Vermont. At first, we were going to take two separate trips. After pricing flights to Illinois though, I had the idea to combine the trips into one long road trip.
We decided to drive to Illinois and stay five days with Gideon’s family, five days with my family and then on the way home go to Niagara Falls. Since this was such a long trip, I’m going to split it up into a few different posts.
Part 1 is the drive to Illinois. It is 17.5 hours of driving, so I planned to stop in Erie, Pennsylvania the first night. We left at 3 AM and Gideon and the girls slept while I drove. After only two stops we arrived in Erie.
Erie has a lot of calm beaches, perfect for the girls’ first trip to the beach. Hadley was so excited to get in the water. She stayed calm and didn’t even care when a little water splashed in her face. Malia was a little slower to get in the water. She preferred playing in the sand. I wasn’t too surprised considering how much she loves playing in the sand box. After a little while though, both of the girls were in the water having a blast.
The hotel where we stayed was great. We had a nice night and continued on the next day to Illinois. We only stopped 3 times during our 9 hour drive. We made it to Benton where the spoiling by the grandparents began. Stay tuned for the next part of our Adventure.

Hadley didn't waste any time getting in the water
Content to watch and play in the sand
I convinced her to move a little closer to the water. Playing in the wet sand.
Finally made it in the water
Malia didn't like it in her face, but Hadley had a blast
Splashing time

Reading a bedtime story on my Kindle since I forgot to pack a book in our overnight bag
Hadley looked so tiny in the queen size bed
Malia ended up in our bed
One of our stops on the second day of driving: Wendy's
Dipping fries in my Frosty. She already knows the good stuff
